ABSTRACT
The author of this paper recognizes “Soil mechanics “ as an ordinary mechanics just treating of geo-materials which have sometimes very complicated but interesting material properties. It seems to be quite natural to teach “Soil mechanics” as one application of applied mechanics described in general and universal style rather than a traditional way written in many textbooks. Very simple examples of earth pressure and stability problems are considered here to discuss a methodology of education from the point of applied mechanics. As these problems can be treated as rigid plastic boundary value problems, limit theorems play the key role.
