ABSTRACT

After graduating five — years curriculum (M. Sc.), Romanian students may attend an additional one — year advanced course in various fields, including also Geotechnical Engineering, thus obtaining a special certificate. During this period, the teachers are presented, among others, some case histories resulting from Romanian professional experience. This paper deals with technical procedures developed in our country with the aim to restore the vertical position of inclined structures, which were subjected to uneven ground settlement. Some situations are described related especially to water towers or tall devilling blocks founded on loessial collapsible soils or on structured fat clays under the action of water infiltration. A variety of technical measures are needed in order to rehabilitate the damaged structures to their original conditions.
