ABSTRACT

The Paper deals with the French postgraduate educational system. There are two ways: either a specialized engineering school (Bac + 5 years) or a master degree (Bac + 4 years). The first academic year,, named DEA (Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies) is devoted to so-called core courses having a general character. The Paper gives also some examples about research themes treated in France — classical as well as new ones. Foreign students or engineers may also be enrolled in research programmes, being able to obtain financial help from French or their own authorities. Some companies, universities or international programmes like TEMPUS may conclude agreements in order to support research works performed by DEA or Ph.D. students.
