ABSTRACT

In the paper, the heat-stable critical heights of embankment for asphalt, concrete and gravel road surface in the degrading permafrost regions are figured out by computer modeling, according to the mean annual air temperature of 4.5 Celsius degrees and local natural geographical and geological conditions. The modeled results are in good agreement with the field Data. The heat-stable critical heights of embankment for asphalt, concrete and gravel roads are figured out as 4.30, 1.40 and 1.00 m and 4.60, 1.60 and 1.00 m, respectively in twentieth year and thirty year following construction from regression analysis. Finally, the authors think that it is important the running time after road construction is introduced into the determination of the critical heights of embankment in cold regions, particularly more important in degrading permafrost regions.
