ABSTRACT

the numerical models to simulate the coal or coal-methane outburst are built with nonlinear FEM. The coal outburst or coal-methane outburst is considered as the instability problem for solid media of single phase or a porous solid coupled fluid of biphase media. According to the thermodynamic law the critical condition of outburst is presented by the singularity of the total stiffness matrices, that is the deformation in coal body emerges bifurcation phenomena in which the multiform equilibrium states occur. Two typical outbursts have been simulated. The computational results are well in agreement with some examples of coal and coal-methane outburst in practice. The obtained conclusion validates that outburst phenomena in coal ming mostly like to lose stability of its equilibrium state and also provide a theoretical basis and numerical method for the precaution and treatment to eliminate outburst in coal production.
