ABSTRACT

The Citronen Fjord “sedex” massive sulphide zinc deposit was discovered by Platinova A/S in 1993. It is the world’s northernmost commercial project, located at 83.1° N and 28.4° W directly on tide water. Drilling located potentially economic zones of which the Beach Zone is the best defined. The Beach Zone is shale hosted with a diluted resource of 8 million tons grading 7.1% Zn and 0.9% Pb. The zone is flat lying on two horizons separated by 5 m at 100 m below surface and extending laterally 3000 m by 400 m. Mining is proposed with a roadheader in a drift-and-rib-pillar method utilizing conveyors for haulage to the mill. Metallurgical testing has confirmed that a combination flotation and leach circuit will give maximum recovery. A detailed navigation study concluded that a ship like the MV Arctic could have an average navigation season of about 60 days.
