ABSTRACT
Presented in this paper are some basic data on the catastrophic earthquake that took place in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia in 1963. The paper also contains information on the post-earthquake reconstruction of the City of Skopje.
The activities of the Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology (I ZIIS) in Skopje are presented for the purpose of discussing some aspects of seismic risk reduction. Results from a number of case studies done within the IZIIS’ practice are also given.
