ABSTRACT

Presented in this paper will be the specificities of earthquake protection, i.e. repair and seismic strengthening of historical monuments in general, and particularly Byzantine churches in the Republic of Macedonia through the results from analytical and experimental investigations of the St. Nikita church model on the shaking table. These investigations were realized within the framework of the long-term research project realized jointly by the Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology, IZIIS, Skopje, the Republic Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments, RZZSK, Skopje, and the Getty Conservation Institute, Los Angeles.
