ABSTRACT

The aim of this paper is the determination of the stress state and of the displacement field around spherical cavities in rock salt. The rheological behavior of the salt is described by a linear viscoelastic model. For the spherical cavity the problem is solved using Neuber’s representation [Neuber (1934)] for the Laplace transform of the displacement field as well as the Maxwell’s representation for the stress tensor.

The results are illustrated through diagrams for various primary stresses and at different moments of time.
