ABSTRACT

Marj Sanur is a very fertile plain located in Jenin Governorate-northern Palestine. The Marj gets flooded in the winter season to form a seasonal lake. The water of the lake is lost without being used, despite the fact that the area around is in very bad need of this water. This study gives a general description for the Marj, including its geography, climate, geology and hydrogeology, soil and agriculture. It tries to identify the flooding phenomenon in terms of flood quantities and flooded areas, as well as the problems associated with floods. Finally the concept of artificial recharge is introduced as a potential solution to the problem; the advantages and disadvantages of this method are described, as well as the main steps to be carried out to implement artificial recharge there.
