ABSTRACT

In order to understand the basic characteristics of freezing-thawing process in a brick wall, a freezing experiment was carried out. The experimental results were analyzed based on heat and moisture transfer equations. It is shown that the amount and the distribution of the accumulated moisture were quite different depending on the local boundary conditions. Then, the influences of climatic conditions on a freezing-thawing process were investigated by making use of the numerical analysis. It is clarified that there is the possibility of freezing due to a nocturnal radiation and rain absorption even in relatively warm area of Japan.
