ABSTRACT

The paper describes the evolution and the current state-of-the-art in the area of building energy standards in Slovakia and the Czech republic. It provides the reader with a comparison of the energy standards and regulations of this two countries with the ones of Austria. The author discusses the problems occurring in the course of the developing of new energy standards and demonstrates the opportunities for energy savings based on proper implementation of standards. The paper suggests also some improvements and steps that should be undertaken in order to make the energy standards in these countries an efficient tool for energy savings. The introduction of an energy passport of buildings or some kind of building ecological product declaration would represent such suitable solution.
