ABSTRACT

Rock stress is one of the indispensable parameters for the underground designing. The overcoring method is considered to be one of the most reliable methods for rock stress measurement. In most overcoring methods, rock is supposed to be a homogeneous, isotropic and linear elastic body. But actually, rock’s property varies from place to place, and it is anisotropic and inelastic. Such differences between the simplified theory and the actual rock may cause serious errors in rock stress measurement. Such an error is investigated by numerical simulation to find out how serious they can be and the mitigation measure and its effect is also discussed.
