ABSTRACT

In-situ stress measurements in Ryukyu Islands have not been carried out as compared with other regions of Japan except the one location at the Okinawa Seawater Pumped-Storage Power Plant. In this study, an attempt was made to infer the crustal stresses in Ryukyu Islands from the striations of faults and focal plane solutions. The fault striations measurements were mainly carried out on the main island and some data were gathered from some publications in literature. The focal plane solutions were gathered from renowned institutes in Japan and USA. The results obtained from two different techniques are compared with each other as well as with that at the pumped storage plant site.
