ABSTRACT

When low temperature materials such as LNG, LPG and frozen food, are stored in rock caverns excavated in mountain, rock mass around caverns is received effect of low temperatures. Therefore, it is necessary for behavior analysis of rock cavern to obtain strength, deformation characteristics and thermal properties of rocks at low temperatures. Their properties for thermal behavior analysis were obtained by the tests at low temperatures. Then using these value, temperature and stress distribution around rock caverns were analyzed by Finite Divided Element Method and Crack Analysis Method which have been proposed by the authors. From the result of the analysis, thermal behavior of rock mass around caverns was discussed.
