ABSTRACT

For several decades the oil and gas industry have been fighting a continuous battle against differential sticking, wash-outs, stuck pipe, stuck casing, kicks, blow-outs, break-outs and other well related problems. A lot of understanding concerning these problems has been gained, and many solutions have been suggested during the history of petroleum engineering. But the driller is still struggling with many of the same problems as General Drake had. A control unit with a mixing system for the casting material is connected to the packer elements, and a flexible multicourse hose transfers electric and hydraulic power and the different components of the casting material from the platform. To determine the increase in strength obtained in sandstone penetrated by the casting material, experiments were carried out where the casting material was injected through core specimens. Conventional casing-design is based on a combination of tension and external or internal pressure considerations.
