ABSTRACT

The Blasting Gallery method which was developed and practised in Carmaux Colliery in Southern France, is being experimented at two mines in India under the technical guidance of CdF International, France to liquidate pillars, developed in signle and two sections, by caving in 7–8 m thick seams in a single lift. Strata deformation in and around the panels during extraction of pillars in single and two section workings was monitored to assess its effficacy with a view to introduce the BG method in other mines. This chapter details the SWOT analysis of the BG method. Some suggestions are also incorporated to suit the method under Indian geomining environment. A number of instruments were used to monitor the convergence, load on supports, pillar dilation, change in pillar stress and inter-burden strata movement from the start of the panel. Monitoring was done only in the bottom section as the top section workings did not exist in the initial 1/3rd of the panel.
