ABSTRACT

An attempt to assess the growth of the holothuroid Holothurie tubulosa (Echinodermata) under aquarium conditions. Individuals of the holothuroid Holothurie tubulosa were kept in open circuit marine aquaria over a 35 day period. Whatever their feeding condition (viz. starved or well-feed), the total wet weight, the length of the gut and the dry weight of the body-wall of all the investigated individuals significantly decreased over the experimental period. The obtained results render uncertain any attempt to estimate Holothurie tubulosa growth rate in aquarium conditions.
