ABSTRACT
The recent increase of conceptual and methodological tools has brought new issues to bear on the problem of evolution. Palaeontology of echinoderms has largely benefited from these improvements. Different palaeontological approaches are reviewed and illustrated in four chapters dealing with: the stratigraphic approach to evolution, the cladistic approach to evolution, the ontogenetic approach to evolution, and the biogeographic approach to evolution.
