ABSTRACT
Preliminary research on integrated crop protection in Europe began about twenty years ago when the IOBC decided to set up à Working Party for that purpose. It took researchers several years to establish sound ecological bases for the action to be taken, to devise practical and effective methods of observation (notably visual inspection) and to define the basic concept of tolerance thresholds for different crops. This work was the subject of close international collaboration, particularly between Germany, France and Switzerland.
