ABSTRACT

The results are reported of a preliminary laboratory investigation into the feeding habits of the peach bud mite (Tarsonemus waitei Banks). This mite was successfully reared at 20° and 30° C and with R.H. between 60% and 70% on Alternaria spp. Rearing trials on lemon leaves according to Munger proved negative. The results of this first phase of the research allow us to exclude that the species can live and reproduce on lemon leaves. The presumed phytophagy of the mite on buds, flowers and young fruit still remains to be proved.
