ABSTRACT

Transmission tests of four isolates of CTV, two found in Calabria (CTV-GB and CTV-SW), one fron Japan (CTV-J), and one from Florida (CTV-T4) by aphids was attempted inside a cabinet under a greenhouse. Aphis citricola was able to transmit CTV-T4 to Mexican lime seedlings in three tests, whereas Aphis gossypii, Toxoptera aurantii, Myzus persicae and Aphis fabae failed in all the trials carried out.

Colonies of Aphis craccivora, A. fabae, A. gossypii, Aulacortum solani, Macrosiphum euphorbiae and M. persicae collected from young shoots of infected trees in Calabria were also assayed by ELISA method and by feeding on Mexican lime seedlings. Both tests were negative.
