ABSTRACT

A bidirectional PAGE technique has been applied to diagnose citrus exocortis viroid (CEV) infections in different species and varieties of citrus growing in greenhouse. Detection of different strains isolates was accomplished from leaves of citron, sweet orange, sour orange, lemon, mandarin and volkameriana lemon. Even samples of 1.2 g were suitable for the diagnosis. Both refrigerated or frozen samples behaved satisfactorily. Young succulent leaves gave better results, but CEV recovery was also possible from mature ones. The described procedure allows to shorten to less than one month the Indexing for CEV.
