ABSTRACT

During 1984 chemical controls were made in a citrus orchard of cv. Tarocco largely attacked by Aphis citricola v.d.G. in the province of Catania.

At the beginning of the tratment the infestation attacked 96% of the shoots and on each of them there was an averange of 850 individuals counting adults and larvae. The tested products were triazophos a 60 gr/hl and a 80 gl/hl, ethiofencarb a 69 gr/hl and heptenophos a 37,5 gr/hl.

The best results were obtained with the last two insecticides which destroied almost all the population of aphids and spared the useful predators.

The survived individuals were controlled by Coccinella 7–punctata L. and by Adalia bipunctata (L.) which were able to attack the infestation of aphids also on test. On the contrary the use of triazophos was inadvisable.
