ABSTRACT

With the aim of supplying a more precise scientific framework for the economic issues involved in the control of phytophagous pests affecting plants, animals and crops useful to man, the author has made particular use of works published in Italian to re-examine the thinking behind the economics of control programmes, their cost/benefit parameters and the analytical instruments used in determining their suitability. Attention is also paid to the operative limits of economic models for pest control in the Sicilian citrus industry.
