ABSTRACT

ODA supports multivarious research and development programmes in the field of tsetse and trypanosomiasis through its own R & D programmes, bilateral aid projects through multilateral aid agencies and in collaborative ventures with international organisations. These cover laboratory investigations, field trials and control operations embracing chemotherapy, trypanotolerance and especially vector control by chemical and non-chemical techniques, some of which it has pioneered, developed and refined over many years, in a keen awareness of the need to maintain the quality of the environment. The aim is to exploit all major forms of tsetse control techniques in harmony and so devise control strategies which meet all the necessary technical, logistical, economical and environmental requirements of specific target areas where tsetse control in the context of sound land-use planning can lead to orderly and rational agricultural development.
