Field investigations of oil sand diggability with a bucketwheel excavator

This paper describes the field investigations of oil sand diggability with a bucketwheel excavator, conducted in an oil sand mine located in Northern Alberta. The investigations were intended to quantify the oil sand diggability, and in particular to define the relative difficulty of mining in-situ and pre-blasted oil sand.
