ABSTRACT

The presentations of the symposium on “Palaeobiogeography and reconstruction of palaeocontinents” covers a wide range of topics from the Ordovician to the Miocene. But the Permian world is the main focus of the symposium. Twelve out of twenty-one presentations dealt with the newly developed continental reconstruction, climate and biogeographic models, and versions of the end-Permian extinction which provide a useful framework for understanding the enigma of Pangea evolution. As in the previous congresses, a symposium on “Palaeocommunities through geological history” was scheduled for the 30th IGC. During the symposium on “Taphonomy, trace fossils, and extraordinarily preserved fossil groups, a majority of eighteen presentations covered various aspects of trace fossils and the lagerstattens.
