ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights the benefits of low glycemic diets especially rich in wholegrains on Healthcare. Wholegrain cereals have less potential to raise the blood glucose levels compared to refined cereals. Wholegrains not only have low glycemic index but also contain various bioactive components, micronutrients, resistant starch, soluble and insoluble fibers, which play crucial role in promoting the health of an individual. Various studies have shown that the health benefits of regular consumption of a low glycemic diet rich in wholegrains play a crucial role in dietary treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, polycystic ovarian syndrome, heart diseases, and others.
