ABSTRACT

This chapter will focus on supraventricular tachyarrhythmias in the postoperative course after M/S surgery for D-TGA. Special attention will be put on the impact of surgery-related alterations of the involved atrial myocardium and the derivation of concepts for treatment by catheter ablation. Because the arterial switch operation for D-TGA has supplanted M/S surgery in countries with well-developed systems for providing CHD care, the number of surviving patients with M/S anatomy is limited and decreasing. However, M/S surgery is still being performed for D-TGA in certain parts of the world with more limited medical resources, and a whole new generation of patients with “double switch” operations for cc-TGA and heterotaxy will require long-term arrhythmia care. The principles outlined in this chapter will remain applicable for all varieties of atrial redirection surgery well into the future.
