ABSTRACT

This chapter assumes that the electrophysiologist is familiar with the mechanisms of tachycardia, the anatomic substrates most at risk for arrhythmias, and knowledge of the conduction system of the heart, and these topics are not reviewed. The history of arrhythmia surgery is briefly reviewed, followed by a description of the operative techniques and current indications for arrhythmia surgery. Perhaps most importantly, the final section discusses planning for surgery and communication with surgical colleagues.
