ABSTRACT

Athletes are continuously searching for novel ways to enhance performance. Recently, there has been a growing interest for use of natural products for performance-enhancing applications with better fitness. This chapter covers the applications of one such option, fenugreek, in sports nutrition and exercise performance. The available scientific evidence on fenugreek supplementation revealed many potential benefits such as increased muscle strength, improved body composition, increased free and bioavailable testosterone, enhanced post-exercise recovery and a useful creatine delivery alternative. This chapter covers the published literature on these particular applications through review of experimental animal and human research, with emphasis on evidences from human clinical studies that have been conducted over the last ten years.
