ABSTRACT

Fenugreek has been well documented for its broad range of benefits in managing several disorders and ailments, including neurological disorders in traditional and modern scientific literature. This chapter is a comprehensive review of the scientific publications that evaluated the fenugreek against several disorders of neurological and psychological origin. The present evidence suggested fenugreek (powder, extracts, fractions, and phytoconstituents) can provide beneficial effects against neurological disorders (neurodegeneration, convulsions, centrally mediated pain, and neuropathies) and psychological disorders (stress and stress-induced disorders such as anxiety, depression, and cognitive disorders). The fenugreek phytoconstituents, especially 4-hydroxyisoleucine and trigonelline, provide promising options as ingredients of nutraceutical or complementary medicines to manage psychological and neurological disorders.
