ABSTRACT

Chronic kidney and respiratory diseases are leading causes of morbidity worldwide. The available treatment options are limited due to higher costs, side effects, or symptomatic relief in a fraction of patients. Fenugreek has been suggested for the treatment of asthma and kidney stone problems in traditional medicinal systems. Over the last few decades, modern scientific studies have attributed the beneficial effects of fenugreek or their major phytoconstituents on many renal and pulmonary disorders. This chapter focuses on available evidence of the efficacy of fenugreek extracts or phytoconstituents against disorders of kidneys and lungs in an experimental or clinical setup. In addition, the possible mechanisms of action to inhibit the release of inflammatory markers, elevated oxidative stress, hyperglycemia, and collagen deposition have been discussed.
