ABSTRACT

Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) has been widely recognized in traditional medicine and reviewed for various pharmacological properties in modern medicine. The anti-fibrotic potential of fenugreek extract and phytoconstituents such as trigonelline, glycosides, and apigenin are reported against pulmonary fibrosis (via activation of Nrf2, inhibition of TGF-β and α‐SMA), liver fibrosis (through modulation of TGF-β, hydroxyproline, MMP, and α‐SMA), renal fibrosis (via activation of Nrf2 and inhibition of α‐SMA, collagen, and hydroxyproline), systemic sclerosis with a broad margin of safety. This chapter reviews the available evidence of the anti-fibrotic efficacy of fenugreek extract and phytoconstituents to manage fibrotic disorders.
