ABSTRACT

Mango is one of the most popular fruits in the world. The mango crop has been reported to suffer from a large number of diseases at various growth, development and production stages. Postharvest management means handling of fruits after harvest to prolong disease-free storage life, maintain freshness and an attractive appearance. It is necessary to adopt non-chemical methods instead of chemical ones, particularly those applied one month before harvest for postharvest disease management. Therefore, management of postharvest diseases below the economic threshold using economically viable, ecologically safe and easily operational non-chemical procedures is obligatory. This can be achieved by adopting integrated disease management (IDM) strategies. However, chemicals are an important component of disease management in IDM, when integrated at the right time for protection of the crop at critical stages. The important postharvest diseases are discussed in detail.
