ABSTRACT

In the recent past, there have been considerable changes in the way companies operate. The concentration has shifted from better products, better profits, better services, and better prospects, to more meaningful considerations, like employee retention, customer satisfaction, the betterment of the environment and of society, and better workplaces. The topic of "purpose" is now a point of discussion amongst academic scholars, business houses, and government bodies. Purpose revolution has significantly changed the way companies operate today. This paper discusses the relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), sustainability, and the emerging concept of "purpose" in business. The paper puts special emphasis on analysis of CSR activities of AVAADA energy Pvt Ltd, and the core principle of the company to serve as a foundation for those who want to develop purpose-driven organisations. The paper also analyses the lives touched by the company's CSR activities. In this paper, the data from 2011-2018, with respect to CSR, has being analysed. The analysis has further been scrutinised with respect to the spending of CSR in various segments, year-on-year CSR spending, component-wise spending, and the geographical emphasis of the company for CSR activity. Additionally, the CSR expenditure has been compared with total expenses, total assets, per capita-CSR, and with the PAT of the year to draw conclusions and to assess whether or not the company is actually enacting a purpose-driven CSR. In this paper, areas such as the Number of Lives Touched, Number of Saplings Planted, and Number of Animal Lives Impacted has also being analysed. A purpose-driven CSR leads to sustainable development and growth of the area. This paper is an effort to highlight this ideology.
