ABSTRACT

Presently, the continuous discharge of various pollutants in usable water bodies as an outcome of various activities from industrial, agriculture, and domestic outlets are needed to concern a lot of scientific attention. Beyond, their permissible limit these pollutants are causing a serious threat to all forms of life, that includes the aquatic system, human health, and overall environmental health. Their presence in excessive amounts increases the probability of various diseases, like cancer in human beings or antibiotic resistance. So, there is a need for improvement in its detection techniques followed by its successful treatment from the contaminated water bodies before these may pollute the environmental health.

This chapter briefly discusses the various sources of pollutants and their detection and removal techniques, such as sensing, adsorption, photocatalysis using different types of nanomaterials.
