ABSTRACT

Multi-scheme comparison is of great significance for sustainable pavement. The existing methods including Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) are often isolated from each other, which cannot achieve the comprehensive evaluation of whole life cycle of the pavement. This paper proposes an integrated evaluation method of economic cost and environmental impact based on life cycle analysis framework. In view of the permeable pavement, the life cycle cost and environmental impacts of typical permeable asphalt pavement (PA) and dense-graded asphalt pavement (DA) are studied. The results show that the economic cost of PA is higher than that of DA, but the environmental impact is much lower. The gaps of economic cost and environmental impact will expand with the increase of traffic volume. This study could provide some useful insights for the decision-making in pavement engineering.
