ABSTRACT

Due to the tremendous advancements in science and technology, nanotechnology has led to new potentials in various industries, including healthcare. It has the potential to be implemented in various healthcare applications, such as potent pharmaceuticals, drug delivery, implants and devices, and diagnostic and imaging applications. Hence, rapid developments are being carried out for diagnosing, preventing, and treating diseases and injury by using materials and devices manufactured at nano-scale. To provide an interface between electronic devices and biological phenomena, nanosensors play an important role by detecting and quantifying various biological substances and processes in the body, leading to the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. This chapter discusses an overview of nano-biosensors and their applications in healthcare- from wearables and implants to diagnostic tools. The chapter also discusses Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) in detail, which is revolutionizing healthcare by interconnecting multiple devices and integrating micro and nano-biosensors using wireless communications technology, allowing these to communicate and exchange information via the Internet. This technology is set to enable the development of smart healthcare systems to give a new face to healthcare technology.
