ABSTRACT

The ParkCap model addresses the interacting supply and demand of parking in an urban area. The parking supply consists of lots of spaces. Each lot is described in terms of location, number of places and management set-ups, including private/semi-private/public access and pricing. In particular, the ParkCap simulator produces the following results: All these characteristics, which are essential for the quality of service of a car trip, are absent from the simulation models traditionally used to inform urban mobility planning. Parking planning is usually carried out at the scale of a mobility-generating hub or a neighbourhood. A capacity design study is typically carried out in order to quantitatively understand the parking needs, on the one hand, that is to estimate the demand, and to conduct an inventory of the existing or planned parking spaces, on the other hand, or, in other words, to estimate the supply.
