ABSTRACT

During the planning and projecting of hospitals that are providing a public service, it is important to ensure the sustainability of companion houses with accommodation facilities. With the increasing interest in social responsibility projects in recent years, sustainability and profit making strategies of public enterprises are planned in a way that will enable energy savings as well as product-service quality.

In this study, an energy-efficient companion house with accommodation facilities was designed and constructed for Firat University Research Hospital from sustainability perspective. The energy performance of the current state of the building was calculated using the Building Information Modeling (BIM)-based Autodesk Revit Architecture Simulation Software. Then, energy efficiency is calculated in the case of designing the same building with a green wall and roof. The energy performances are compared and analyzed comparatively if the projected building was considered as a part of the green hospital concept. This study is aimed to create an exemplary project in order to present the contribution of the new buildings to energy savings when the newly constructed public buildings are transformed into green buildings.
