ABSTRACT

E-waste is classified as a dangerous waste stream by numerous legislations as it is unsafe to improperly dispose of as landfill. Since the emergence of e-waste is a relatively new phenomenon, research on effective e-waste management is in its infancy and narrow in both breadth and depth. This chapter provides a global e-waste generation scenario and critically discusses international laws and policies on e-waste management. Rapid development and mass production of electronic products have prompted nations worldwide to adopt a national e-waste management system. This chapter reviews notable e-waste management techniques worldwide. Key characteristics of archetype e-waste management models through which nations can effectively reduce, reuse, and recycle e-waste are outlined.
