ABSTRACT

Technological revolution along with its pros has its cons associated with it. One of the major challenges in today’s global scenario is the generation of e-waste and its effective management. India is the third-largest producer of e-waste in the world. The majority of the e-waste produced in the country is by the informal sector that uses primitive techniques of e-waste disposal thus resulting in an increased level of pollution. This chapter discusses the effects of excessive production of e-waste in the country and possible solutions to reduce our carbon footprint by presenting a case study of an Indian start-up and its contribution towards a sustainable waste management system. The chapter also focuses on the concept of Urban Mining and its objective to promote conservation of resources through the 3R goals.
