ABSTRACT

Being one of the most important cash crops, cotton is considered as the white gold across the globe. Like many other crops, cotton is also prone to many biotic and abiotic stresses which limit its productivity and quality. In order to improve the cotton crop production and quality traits, many traditional methods of breeding have been employed with varying degrees of success. With the advent of modern biotechnology tools like tissue culture and genetic transformation, there is a speedy improvement in crop production and quality. Although these methods have shown promising results, they also have some limitations. This chapter provides brief details of all the methods and the improvements made to date.
