ABSTRACT

This chapter attempts to review the state-of-the-art development of automobile industry and its battery management system to create a platform for smart electric vehicles (EVs). Over the period of time, EVs are replacing the age-old petrol or diesel-fueled vehicles. Lithium-ion batteries are one of the hazardous elements of EVs and this is the reason why fuel cell-enabled EVs have become more popular. Internet of Things (IoT) has almost entered into each and every step of our daily activities. It can provide an immersive real-life view of the physical world applying different sensors and radio devices. Thus, an automatic and efficient charging scheme for EVs can be thought of using IoT-based services. IoT has also revolutionized the energy sector with the buzz word Internet of Energy (IoE). Fuel cells can thus turn to be one of the important sources of IoE, thereby contributing to the development of smart EVs. Decentralized smart charging systems will also thus be part and parcel of the new era of EVs. Robustness to preserve user privacy can play a vital part in the years to come.
