ABSTRACT

The energy storage market has consolidated its position as one of the green alternatives to provide predictability to the unpredictable renewable energy availability, assist in the effective utilization of existing power grids, and augment reliability by providing energy subscribers the modularity feature of distributed energy resources. Energy storage is a malleable resource for dominant sectors such as power grids and e-mobility. The growth of the energy storage sector has been impeded by the fact that the cost of the existing conventional energy resources is still much lower. With further scalability of the energy storage technology, a plethora of applications will become affordable. The purpose of this chapter is to provide a fundamental understanding of energy storage devices and how they can fit in e-mobility and power grids by careful technological design.
