ABSTRACT

The history of the church dedicated to the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Ząbkowice Śląskie dates back to the 13th century. Over the centuries, the building was expanded, destroyed, and experienced many construction disaster caused by human or natural factors, which resulted in its numerous reconstructions and not homogeneous structure. The passage of time and neglect of the church generated growing danger of its destruction e.g. cracks in the external walls and vaults. For this reason, in 2011-2014 the church structure was strengthened with interior renovation. Despite the performed protections, the deformation process of the walls and vaults progressed and some new cracks have been appearing. For this purpose, authors used geodetic techniques and the obtained results were compared with the former geotechnical documentation. The research also permits to determine to a certain extent the causes of deformations and pre-indicate the methods of further rescue operations.
