ABSTRACT

Arthritis is one of the leading causes of pain and disability worldwide. Osteoarthritis is the most prevalent form of arthritis. Obesity is clearly associated with arthritis of the knee, particularly in women. Weight loss will lower the risk of osteoarthritis. Weight loss and regular exercise are appropriate for individuals with both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. However, clinicians should be knowledgeable about specific issues related to the course of disease in both of these groups of patients.
