ABSTRACT

Obesity prevention and treatment involve individual strategies, but also encompass a variety of community, state, national, and international policies and strategies. Policies to encourage healthy eating include the provision of more fruits and vegetables and strategies to reduce the cost of such products. Support for active living can occur in school settings but also in community- wide settings including increased walking and biking trails, playing fields, etc. Clinicians should advocate for the importance of healthy eating and increased physical activity as key strategies which carry health benefits on their own and also reduce the risk of weight gain and obesity.
